Ep. 16 - The Old Guard

Real Madrid’s Old Guard of Toni Kroos, Luka Modrić, & Karim Benzema lead Real Madrid past Athletic Bilbao and SD Eibar this week, both with a 3-1 scoreline.

Los Blancos made it 5 wins out of 5 this weekend with a 3-1 victor of Eibar at Ipurua Municipal Stadium. Zinedine Zidane’s midfield duo of Luka Modrić and Toni Kroos continue to prove that they are amongst football’s elite midfielders as they stifle their opponent’s chances to create any offense while then effortlessly guiding Madrid’s attack.

During a season where it was thought that the aging Modrić would play second string to up and coming talents such as Martin Ødegaard and Fede Valverde, the 2018 Ballon D’Or Winner and World Cup runner-up is proving that age is nothing but a number.

In addition, the midfield chemistry with teammate Toni Kroos seems to never have been better as both players conduct Real Madrid’s play like two maestro’s leading a symphonic masterpiece.

It was just a month ago when Real Madrid was on the cusp of being eliminated from the Champions League group stage and suffering jaw-dropping losses against mid-table La Liga sides.

That might as well have been ages ago as Real Madrid have won 5 in a row due to a resurgence of Zidane’s old guard. In addition to Toni Kroos and Luka Modrić showcasing flawless football, Karim Benzema has once again found his form in front of goal, scoring 5 goals in his last 5 games.
