Another sad performance by Real Madrid versus Athletic Bilbao leaves La Liga champions out of the Spanish Super Cup and at a crossroads.
While sticking with his Starting XI has allowed Zidane to grind out wins, it has left Madridistas wondering what the long term plans for Madrid are if Zidane continues to let their talented but underused youthful acquisitions on the bench.
Some Madridistas have been calling for the Frenchman’s head, while others feel that Zidane is doing what he can with what he has.
The reality could possibly be a mixture of both mindsets. Zidane is no doubt favoring his old guard because they have been putting in some stellar performances, i.e. Modrić, Kroos, Benzema, etc…
However, when his favorites fail to produce, he seems to not have confidence or the desire to use his younger talents such as Ødegaard, Odriozola, Militão, etc…
It is high time that Zidane realizes that he is at a crossroads and perhaps his best path may be to acquiesce and begin giving his youngsters more playing time and opportunities.
In this episode of the podcast, we discuss Zidane’s stubbornness, the dismal performance versus Athletic, Lucas Vazquez, Ødegaard, Hazard, and more.
