Show Notes

A few weeks ago on Ep. 57 of the podcast, we were so angry at the 0-4 loss to Barcelona during El Clásico that we thought Real Madrid's season was slowly unraveling. We had just been humiliated once again by Barcelona, our most hated rival. It was a tough loss to swallow. It was yet another humiliation at the hands of Barcelona but this loss stung a bit more since it was once again at the Santiago Bernabeu but also because it was against a Barcelona that was and is rebuilding.

But oh how quickly the tables turn in football. How quickly the narrative shifts. Since Real Madrid's loss to Barcelona Real Madrid has beaten Celta Vigo, Getafe, Sevilla, and Osasuna in La Liga and in the UCL played a masterful game at Stamford Bridge to defeat Chelsea in the 1st leg and then mounted an epic comeback once again in the 2nd leg to defeat Chelsea 5-4 on aggregate after Chelsea went 3-0 up at the Bernabeu.

In La Lige, Sevilla also went 2-0 up in the Sanchez Pizjuan only for Real Madrid to once again mount a comeback and win the match 3-2. And while Real Madrid was calling its way back from defeat in multiple games, Barcelona and the "Xavineta" began to flounder.

Xavi & Co. crashed out of the Europa League at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt and then lost important matches against Cádiz and Rayo Vallecano that have now left Real Madrid 1-point away from their 35th La Liga title.

In this episode, we discuss Real Madrid's comebacks, their recent wins in La Liga, the importance of Valverde, the love/hate relationship Madridistas seem to have with Carlo Ancelotti, the upcoming match with Manchester City, transfer rumors, and more.

We also discuss that unlike Barcelona's narrative about "style" and "DNA"...Real Madrid's "DNA" is less about style and more about winning. That this team's legacy is that its players put the team above everything else and understand that this team is about winning, first and foremost.
